The underside of the dark green leaves of Cornus alternifolia is bluish.
In late spring, creamy white flowers appear in upright flat corymbs running the length of the branches.
They are followed by small blue-black berries on striking red stalks.
Closely related to Cornus controversa and you can think of it as a smaller version of it.
