Young twigs have felt-like hairs, older branches become bare. The leaves are grey-green and softly hairy and can grow large, especially in a warmer climate. The paper mulberry has a very variable leaf shape. Almost all leaves will be different. It is deeply incised, especially on young leaves and after heavy pruning. It flowers in May, the flowers have a brown-green color. After warm summers, orange-red, spherical pseudo fruits may appear. In the fall, the leaves take on a beautiful yellow color.
